Each year, Farmers Insurance ranks hundreds of U.S. communities based on safety and security. Using 2012 data compiled by researchers at Sperling’s BestPlaces, the study of safe large metro areas took into consideration a number of criteria, including economic stability, crime statistics, extreme weather, risk
of natural disasters, housing depreciation, foreclosures, air quality,
environmental hazards, life expectancy, motor vehicle fatalities, and
“Our most secure large metropolitan areas are islands of security in our
challenging times,” said Bert Sperling, president of Sperling’s
BestPlaces. ”Some have a stable economy due to their local colleges and
seats of government, and some may be fortunate that their locale is not prone to hurricanes, tornadoes or earthquakes. Although each metropolitan area is different, they all possess a desirable combination
of factors (jobs, low crime rates, housing, climate, health, reduced levels of natural disasters) that make these some of the best places to live in the United States.”
Our own Orange County metro area is featured as number 19 on the list – we should all feel grateful to live in a safe large metro area, which allows us to take advantage of relatively low insurance costs (of course there are other factors here which cause some of our insurances to be higher than average.)

Farmers Insurance celebrates its 85th birthday this year (2013). Farmers has an interesting history. Starting out in a tiny one-room office in Los Angeles, California in 1928, just one year before the greatest economic depression in our country’s history, Farmers Insurance had all odds stacked firmly against them. I am proud to be an insurance agent for a strong company that has survived the bad times, and 85 years later, consistently named the top carrier in California and one of the largest insurance companies in America, as well as a household name, serving millions of customers.
As part of the celebration and as a way to propel our brand into the future, Farmers is also retiring its 55-year old logo and bringing on a more modern version of the Farmers Insurance logo. The integral design of the logo remains the same. The sunrise theme was present in the Farmers Insurance original logo in 1928 and was an image chosen to represent optimism, and the sign of a new day. The sun’s rays symbolize Farmers’ broad range of insurance products and services. Roughly 30 years later, Farmers added a shield, which signified protection for customers. Keeping these same elements, the new logo brings about a fresh change with a cleaner and more sleek design and strong, solid colors.
“The new logo captures our belief that by helping customers make more informed insurance decisions, we can provide them with greater knowledge, confidence and security. And, by doing so, we can help them make the smartest insurance choices for their families,” said Mike Linton, Chief Marketing Officer for Farmers Insurance. “The new logo is part of the Farmers transformation to an organization that not only serves our customers better, but also helps empower them.”
The current Farmers “We Believe in Smart” advertising campaign, which is at the core of our current sales and marketing efforts, reflects and reinforces our focus and commitment to help make customers smarter about their insurance decisions. And that is my goal as well.
As always, please call me with any insurance questions or needs.
